Just for fun

It's once again time for the Blog-o-sphere Think Tank to gather here in cyberspace and share our blogging efforts. This months topic is " a past time activity or something we do for pure enjoyment" This months participants are   Andes Cruz www.andescruz.wordpress.com Kathleen Krucoff http://mysticalmythicalmetalwork.wordpress.com/ ...  I'm looking forward to discovering what they do for fun.

I'm currently working on a copper fold formed tea pot. It's coming along nicely. I'll get back to posting the progress on it  towards the end of the week. There are a number of things I do for fun. I'll go for a walk along the beach to watch the sunset or go to a near by game preserve to escape the city and see the alligators or watch the pelicans..I have a new found appreciation for these weather prediction birds. To an Iowa boy a pelican is a wonderment.
Most of all, when I'm not observing, I'm making. I enjoy the challenge, I have fun doing it. It provides me with my escape from things in the world that drive me crazy, those large issues we can't do anything about. I make things..For a couple of years now those things have been copper things. The piece I'm going to show you today is one I made a few years ago. It's made from just two pennies and a glass bead I made. I found it in my stash. I hope you can see the magic of the making as two pennies become a magic wand. Making a magic wands is serious business, ya know.  If the piece is about any thing, then it's about the "fluididity" of the materials..( It's my blog I can make up words if I want to) besides fluididity sounds magical. I hope you see the  "fluididity" of just pennies really and glass.

Pennies  begin to change form and become.

Sometimes I get to take the  undervalued, the seemingly insignificant, the overlooked and transform them. It's magical. You did know you can click on the pictures and make them bigger??  Why who would have known? Pennies aren't just copper anymore. Blow up the pics and fine the "fluididity". of   "Penny Wand"  Enjoy

Progress continues.

Two of several FF handles considered. Handles will get decked so they appear to be solid.
I like these but  I just didn't like them with the tea pot.
Spout is just taped into position.. It's actual shape is a diamond form.  What were once wings now flow into the form.
Everything is just sitting in place. While I work out proportions and position
Whole bunch of fabricating to do, pretty soon. Still not sure about how the bottom of the handle resolves to the tea pot...I'm looking and pondering..

Tea Pot Parts

Most of the work on this Tea Pot last week was in this part.
It server as the lid to the tea pot and the diffuser for the tea.

It begins as this small raising. View is from the bottom. The do-nut area will be drilled with many holes.
View from the interior. This will receive a  triangular lip and be hinged to it's cover.
That cover needed a knob. These are fold formed pieces that were either considered or were the inspiration for the knob.
This project is based on 12 some of these pieces are based on five
This one is based on six..it works with this project.
 Top view diffuser in place.
Side view pieces are just resting in place.
another view. At this point I'm beginning to consider possible contrasts in surface and color. There have become two interiors to consider.  Work this week will include getting rid of the wings on the body of the pot, some fabrication on the diffuser. Three large portions exist on paper, the carrying handle, the pouring handle and the spout. It is time for them to get into 3D   It's almost hammer time.
It's also time this piece gets a name....or at least names begin to suggest themselves. Feel free to suggest one, if you like.
