Walls get vertical !

 The tools of the trade
Forms now have vertical walls. Yes I do angle raising but I also do a some crimp raising to speed things up a little.
I get to play with fire, too.   This has been another update on these six raisings. From this point on they begin to take on more individual character. I'm thinking about lids, lips, spouts and handles.

Now the lips are 4" 5" and 6 1/2"

Next course will bring the walls to vertical. Some planishing is in order soon. Possibilities are presenting themselves. This is the 3 rd course of raising. Forms are getting deeper, too.

6's, 7's, and 8's 2nd course done

Second course finds pieces getting deeper, lips beginning to close. At this point I begin to anticipate the walls getting to vertical.  The lines are ink and will burn away in annealing. The lines serve as guides to raising each round. There are usually two or three rounds between lines. Off to anneal.

6s, 7s, and 8s first course done

The first course of raising is complete, pieces gained depth, lips shrank in diameter slightly. Colors are a product of contact with flame, heat patina or flame painting. The pieces go through a wide variety of changes, with many moments of pretty along the way. I could turn these totally pink in the pickle. My pickle is a little diluted..
